Goodpatch, the Japanese design firm turning heads in Tokyo, has a new tool for designers and developers. Prott, the startup’s new prototyping tool (also available in English) can now be used to design apps for the Apple Watch.
They are not the first team to release a prototyping tool. Take a look around and there are a number of alternatives. Prott’s Apple Watch support is notable for being developed in a three-hour design sprint. Also, leading firms like DeNA, IDEO, and Yahoo Japan are all paying customers of the prototyping service.
Boris Milkowski, a designer in the company’s new business development team tells Tech in Asia that Prott has gained over 11,000 users since its October launch and generates tens of thousands of dollars monthly.

When we spoke with Goodpatch’s founder and CEO Naofumi Tsuchiya earlier in the year, he was passionate about wanting to change the nature of Japanese design from its stereotypical clutter to a simpler and cleaner layout. His design work is a major reason why one of Japan’s most popular news curation apps, Gunosy, has attracted millions of users.
Completely reforming Japanese web design might take Goodpatch years to achieve, but with Apple Watch maybe they can popularize elegant design from the start. Let’s hope so – those screens aren’t so big.
