Machi E-Sports League of Legends players Golem and VanillaV have been banned from participating in League of Legends leagues and tournaments for the next two years, following Garena Taiwan’s discovery of their elo-boosting. Their accounts have been banned as well.
The two top subs will be replaced by Machi BigBrother, the Machi E-Sports team owner. He will step in for the team until the end of GPL Summer 2014.
Elo-boosting is defined as repeatedly and intentionally playing on someone else’s account in order to improve that person’s elo rating in League of Legends. This is usually a paid service, and its legality is…a gray area.
The League of Legends SEA community seems welcoming of elo-boosting though, as seen in the little online “businesses” that have sprouted up. Cheap Elo Boost SEA and Budget Elo Boost SEA are two examples.
Garena will be issuing an official statement on the two players soon, but suffice to say, their ban is immediately effective.
