If you are looking for a targeted property portal just for short term or temporary housing, the new project, ShortTermRentals.sg by Vinod Nair (who recently shut down two other property sites HomeSpace.sg and RentSpace.sg) might interest you.
Even though the site just launched about a week ago, there are already about 100 listings there.
Apart from property agents who might put up listings, if you have space freed up in your home by a sibling or child who is heading overseas for a period of time, this might be a way to get additional income by renting out that space. Places are put up for daily, weekly or monthly rental.
The site is currently free for agents and landlords who want to post up their listings but tiered subscription options will start some time from this month onwards.
On why he thinks RentSpace did not take off, Vinod has this to say, “From an end user’s perspective, the site [RentSpace] was built in such a way that it made exploring easy but browsing and searching more difficult. The whole premise of using a map is useful when you have a general area in mind and want to explore what’s available in that area. With RentSpace, specifying a location was a must, without which users would not be able to really make use of the powerful map features. So it made getting from HomePage to Listing a longer and slightly more tedious process.”
However, having learnt from his experiences in the online real estate space, he decided to give it another shot, but this time by being “laser focused” so that ShortTermRentals has a shot at being “number 1”.

Landing page of ShortTermRentals. Search form takes center stage.
Apart from his interest in the property rental space, Vinod’s two other projects include Textuate – an SMS marketing service provider, SmartLoans.sg – a mortgage comparison platform, and its Malaysian counterpart, SmartLoans.my.
