Gogoro, Bikebank to launch smart-scooter services in South Korea

Gogoro, a battery-swapping company based in Taiwan, has partnered with Bikebank to introduce Gogoro Smartscooters and battery-swapping services in South Korea under the latter’s Dotstation brand.

As part of the deal, Gogoro’s battery-swapping network will be extended to seven additional cities aside from Seoul. The initiative, scheduled to launch in Q3 2023, comes after Gogoro began the implementation of its battery-swapping system for food deliveries in Seoul in 2019.

Founded in 2011 by Horace Luke and Matt Taylor, Gogoro specializes in supporting the electric two-wheeler market. In addition to putting up battery-swapping stations, the firm also offers its own range of electric scooters.

Meanwhile, Bikebank offers maintenance and other services for electric two-wheelers as well as the sale of used vehicles. Its subsidiary, Dotstation, provides motorcycle rental and delivery services in South Korea.

Dotstation operates over 70 battery-swapping stations in Seoul, Daegu, Sejong, Changwon, Incheon, Gyeongsan, Gyeonggi, and Ulsan.

Gogoro, which went public on Nasdaq in April 2022, generated US$382.8 million in revenue for 2022, an increase of 4.6% year over year.
