I won an NFT so… what now?

Hello readers,

A friend recently tagged me in a tweet about a competition to win a non-fungible token (NFT).

Whoever won the token would be the new owner of an animated digital model of a tiger. It looked pretty cool but I didn’t know what use I’d have for such a thing. Would I make it my phone wallpaper and show it off? Or put it up on a screen in my room, play it on loop, and admire it in my downtime?

Nevertheless, I decided to take part in the contest mostly because it didn’t take much effort – all I had to do was retweet it and tag three friends. To my surprise, I ended up winning.

Though I’m more amused than elated with my win, I am aware that NFTs are somewhat of a phenomenon in Asia’s tech scene. Top Silicon Valley investor Andreessen Horowitz recently invested in a Philippine-based startup that deals in the blockchain-based assets, while NFT-powered trading and battling video game Axie Infinity’s been making waves in the region.

If you want to learn more about the wacky world of NFTs, take a deep dive into the hot new trend in the latest episode of Tech in Asia Explains.

You can find all other important investment deals over the last few days in our weekly funding news wrap-up.
