Foodpanda gets fatter with fresh $100 million

Rocket Internet’s online food ordering service Foodpanda today announced a US$100 million funding round led by Goldman Sachs Investment. This comes close on the heels of a US$110 million round announced in March.
Foodpanda recently added its own delivery service in India. It can be used by restaurants listed on its site which don’t have their own delivery services, as well as others which want to cut delivery costs and improve efficiency. This service was also launched in Pakistan..
The latest investment, in which Rocket Internet pitched in as well, will be used to expand Foodpand’s delivery operations and improve customer experience. The focus will be on building the company stronger in emerging markets, which represents “ the largest opportunity in online food delivery,” according to Ralf Wenzel, co-founder and CEO of Foodpanda.
The company has been on a global trot since its launch in 2012, gobbling up competitors in India, Mexico, Russia, Brazil, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia. It now operates in 40 countries across five continents.
