Flipkart ramps up supply chain hiring amid India’s escalating Covid-19 crisis
“Walmart-owned Flipkart said it had hired 23,000 additional workers over the last three months (March to May) for various roles in its supply chain, including delivery executives,” The Economic Times reported.

- The move comes as Flipkart looks to ensure that it can entertain incoming orders while maintaining safety measures amid India’s escalating Covid-19 situation.
- Flipkart executive Hemant Badri said the new hires will help the ecommerce major cater to a surge in demand for online shopping, with people still confined in their homes.
Context:
- Citing data from hiring firm TeamLease, the report noted that India saw about 250,000 to 300,000 temporary delivery and supply chain positions open during the festive season sales in 2020.
- It was recently reported that Flipkart is looking to raise US$1 billion in a pre-IPO round at up to a US$30 billion valuation.
