Founded by Kush Agarwal in 2018, WaveScan developed a beamforming electromagnetic scanner that is useful for infrastructure and building maintenance. The company’s wireless scanners can penetrate a variety of structural materials, including wood and concrete, to detect defects. WaveScan is a spin-off company from A*Star, Singapore’s public sector research and development agency.
In 2019, the company got a S$500,000 (around US$375,000) grant from Enterprise Singapore’s Startup SG Tech Proof of Value.
WaveScan plans to use the fresh funds to launch the first version of its proprietary modular scanner system that can be integrated with automated robotic arms and crawlers. It will also test its scanner’s drone version, add more team members, and deliver its committed full-scale projects slated for the year ahead.
The company aims to collaborate with over 20 large infrastructure companies in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the UK, in addition to currently conducting pilot trials in Europe and Japan.
After this funding, former CEO of Systems on Silicon Manufacturing Company (SSMC) Jagadish CV will join WaveScan as a board director.
