Chinese Final Fantasy fans, start your engines. Final Fantasty XIV: A Realm Reborn, the reworked version of Square Enix’s not-so-well-liked 2010 MMORPG, is finally coming to China. At a press conference in Shanghai, Shanda Games CEO Zhang Xiangdong announced that the game’s China beta would begin this April. (Shanda Games will be the China publisher for A Realm Reborn).
Of course, that’s not going to be an open beta, just the first round of closed testing. Want to get in on the action? You can try to reserve an activation number here.
The beta will presumably free, but Shanda has also said that once it’s officially launched, the game will be monetized using the traditional subscription model rather than making it a free-to-play game like many Chinese MMORPGs.
After the press conference, Zhang also told reporters that the dialogue localization is in progress right now, and that the team was considering allowing players to switch between the Chinese dubbed dialogue or the Japanese original with Chinese subtitles. Personally I hope they do; it’s always fun to play games in their original language.
