Figma has reached a global settlement agreement with Motiff on intellectual property protection disputes in the US and in Singapore, capping an almost yearlong legal battle between the two design collaboration software firms.
In a joint statement, the companies said they had agreed to settle lawsuits in the US and in Singapore.
Under the terms of the settlement, which became effective on July 23, Motiff will cease selling the current version of its editor tool globally. The Singapore-based firm also agreed not to sell any future products derived from the tool worldwide, except in mainland China.

In mainland China, Motiff may continue to sell its current editor tool for one year, while it reengineers and redesigns the product. It will also reimburse US-based Figma’s legal expenses.
A Figma spokesperson said the firm is “pleased” to have reached a global settlement that will allow it to keep building for its customers “without distraction.”
“We welcome fair competition and strongly believe that no one should be allowed to copy our or others’ IP to gain an advantage,” the spokesperson noted.
A Motiff representative said the company is “equally pleased” to have reached a compromise settlement and that it would be focusing on its AI 2.0 product. Motiff “is committed to bringing AI value to our users,” the representative added.
Motiff’s UI editor will “completely cease service on August 22, 2025,” according to the company’s website.

In a blog post dated July 31, Motiff co-founder Ryan Zhang informed users of the firm’s plan to sunset its UI editor, a decision that “wasn’t easy.”
He added that the company will refund any undelivered portion of the service to users who have already paid. Zhang also shared that the firm is developing a “plug-in powered by Motiff AI” and focusing on “using AI to reinvent the field of UI design.”
Motiff is aiming for a fall release of its AI plug-in, he wrote.
