Baidu has launched Baidu Rencai (beta), a job search portal where employers and job seekers meet. Like any other job search portal, it allows users to search for available jobs and employers to put up jobs positions.
What’s most exciting is that Baidu has also integrated this job search feature within the search engine results page.
It’s an ingenious move. For example, if you were to search ‘设计师’ (means designer) on Baidu, you will see a list of available jobs on the search results page. It’s a simple but intelligent innovation, something that differs from Google. Alternatively, users can also log on directly to rencai.baidu.com to explore the jobs portal.
Last week, we also saw Baidu integrating micro-blogging into its search box. Penn Olson’s Rick Martin explained, “If the search term includes certain adverbs like ‘very’ or ‘extremely,’ or if it ends with an exclamation point or a particle that makes it look like a spoken sentence, then you’re presented with the microblog buttons.” Note that users need to be logged in to be able microblog through Baidu’s search box.
Clearly, Baidu is pushing its search engine to perform as many “web duties” as possible. The features integrated so far are pretty intuitive to users. It would give a pleasant surprise to layman users. A good integration, I must say.
