5 of the craziest things about Faraday Future’s hypercar

Faraday Future, the Chinese-funded, America-based auto startup, earlier today took the wraps off its electric hypercar, the FF Zero1.

While the FF Zero1 is a concept that might not go into production, the company’s head designer described it as a “serious statement and a showcase” of an array of more affordable cars that it will launch in future. So although the FF Zero1 looks nuts and seems to be a million miles away from a mid-range sedan, Elon Musk should be sleeping restlessly tonight after a new Tesla competitor revealed such grand ambitions – and such bold tech.

Here are five of the craziest things about Faraday’s car.

1. The transparent fin that’s also a screen

The rearward dorsal fin that sprouts out of the glass-topped cabin is transparent. While it’s of dubious aerodynamic value, it has other clear purposes.

The fin illuminates at the edges with the brake lights, as shown in several of Faraday Future’s promo images. It can also serve as a display across the entire surface to show anything else.

2. Driver has to wear a helmet

Although the single-seater supercar has a glass canopy, the driver has to wear a specially-designed helmet. Like with an F1 racing driver, the helmet plugs into the seat for safety purposes – for integrated head and neck support – as well as to support supply lines for water and oxygen.
