False rumor: Chinese League of Legends teams will not be heading to Korea’s OGN

Rumors have been spreading that a team from China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL) would be invited to join Korea’s OnGameNet (OGN) League next season, but that’s all they are—rumors. The original claim came from Keahoarl’s Weibo account, which stated the following:

keahoarl announcement

Keahoarl received a piece of good news today after being on the Korean frontlines: after communication with the Korean eSports Association (KeSPA), Keahoarl has received a slot for the OGN Spring qualifiers. We estimate the matches will start in November. Are there any Chinese teams willing to go to Korea and hone their skills for season five? As for the spots in China’s LPL, we will actively communicate with L.ACE and Tencent.

Keahoarl has now released another announcement on its official website saying that everything was merely due to a miscommunication. A screenshot of the statement and English translation can be found below:

keahoarl apology

Because of a communication error between Keahoarl and OGN, we announced incorrect information. What we said about Chinese teams being able to attend OGN for next season is false, as is our mention of Riot cancelling the Winter season for OGN. We sincerely apologize for the confusion this has caused.

Although a situation like teams switching countries not unheard of, especially after LMQ’s move from China’s LPL to the North American LoL Champion Series (LCS), it seems like it won’t be happening this time
