Twitter was down for about an hour and guess who was the culprit?
Fail whale. Not just one but many.
From the Twitter team,
“We are experiencing an outage due to an extremely high number of whales. Our on-call team is working on a fix.
We are recovering from this incident. A sudden failure coupled with problems in switching to a backup system produced a high number of errors for around 90 minutes. This made the site largely inaccessible. No data was lost or compromised during this outage.”
Well, what people normally do at this time is speculate and we will do the same. Another DDoS attack? A sudden wave of tweets on Haiti? Or is it really the whales’ fault?
Twitter is back up now and surprise surprise #whentwitterwasdown is now the trending topic!

We will update the space here once we get more information from Twitter.
