Facebook Group Works Great for Small Businesses

groupsA couple of weeks ago, we got really excited about how Facebook’s revamped group would be like and look like. As soon as it was launched, @stooffi (a potential world’s coolest intern) created a group for us. It didn’t take us long to figure out how to use it. It’s that simple.

In short, the new Facebook group allows us to congregate small networks of friends or family together, making communication internal with needed Facebook features like threaded conversations. I find it useful and thought more small businesses should give this new Facebook group a try.

Three Features

1. Discussions made simple: Facebook group makes online work discussions a breeze. It works exactly the same as how we chatted with our friends though news feed or wall-to-wall posts. Threaded conversation makes discussions easy to follow and everything shared are kept within the group.

2. Quick doc collaboration: Facebook group has a simple collaborative document function; like a scaled down version of Google docs. Instead of sharing ideas through email and Google documents, Facebook document keeps any file updates and alerts within facebook, all in a single platform. In our case, we created an IDEAS document for any members to throw in suggestions or ideas.

3. Photo sharing: We were brainstorming our new business card design and found group extremely useful throughout the process. The like button somehow became a voting button, clearly stating the most popular design. Small ad agencies might find this feature useful when discussing over an ad layout.

Admittedly, all the above are simple functions that solve simple problems. They work great for small businesses but not quite so as your business need increases.

The beauty of group is that it keeps the team better connected. Any announcement is just one Facebook status update away. It makes work so much more social and fun.
