Indonesia Airline Director is Victim of Facebook Hack, Friends Defrauded

facebook hackerHackers are not just a problem for the Indonesian government and its websites (as we reported here recently), but they are also proving troublesome for Facebook and its users. The financial director of Indonesia’s Garuda Airlines, Elisa Lumbantoruan, had his Facebook account hacked. It wouldn’t have been such a big deal if only the hacker hadn’t used Lumbantoruan’s account to prey upon his friends!

Through the account, the hacker contacted ‘his friends’ via Facebook chat and asked for his mobile phone’s credits. Many people fell for the scam and sent phone credits to the hacker. Lumbantoruan only realized that his Facebook account was hijacked when he was on a business trip in China. During his stay there, Lumbantoruan can’t access his account, since the service is blocked there. He got the word of the hijacking after some of his friends complained through his BlackBerry Messenger.

“I have just landed and I’ve just realized that my Facebook account was hijacked. I can’t opened it again,” said Elisa to a Detik reporter. “I’ll make a new account again soon, to tell everyone that the old one has been hijacked.”

Elisa also told his friends to ignore chat messages or friend requests from his account, hoping that the hacker would claim no more victims. He also reported the incident to Facebook to close the hacked account.

Other recent hack cases in Asia include Sony’s PlayStation network, over 100 sites in Vietnam after an Island dispute with China, and (uh…) a webcam hacker who spied on reality show girls in China.
