The investment is part of Grab’s ongoing series H funding round led by Toyota with US$1 billion injection. Automotive companies Kia and Hyundai, US tech giant Microsoft, travel firm Booking.com, Thai financial services group Kasikornbank, as well as global financial institutions OppenheimerFunds, Goldman Sachs, and Citi Ventures have participated in the round.
With the investment, Experian and Grab seek to improve access to mobility solutions and financial services for underbanked consumers in Southeast Asia.
“Through leveraging data insights and collaboration with local partners such as Grab, we aim to better understand and meet the financial needs of unbanked and underbanked consumers in the region,” said Dev Dhiman, Experian’s managing director for Southeast Asia and emerging markets, in a statement.
The Grab investment marks Ireland-based Experian’s fourth investment in Asia.
