[EXCLUSIVE] Gamers say yes to tanks! Wargaming announces 100 million registered players

This is a Games in Asia exclusive.

Whoever thought tanks would never make it big in an MMO market saturated with fantasy worlds and bright colors was wrong. Wargaming has announced that the Wargaming.net universe now hosts over 100 million registered users in both its World of Tanks and World of Warplanes series.

This impressive number follows the formerly-PC-only brand’s expansion into both console and mobile spaces. World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition has picked up 3.8 million registered players in over 86 countries since launching in February 2014, while iOS-exclusive World of Tanks Blitz acquired over five million installs in the first month of its June 2014 launch. It also landed in the App Store’s top three for 50 countries, and averaged a user score of 4.5.

“World of Tanks created a new niche in the MMO market,” said Victor Kislyi, CEO of
Wargaming. “We started on PC, but with other platforms in mind. By the launch of World of
Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition
and World of Tanks Blitz we stepped into two new markets, taking our signature gameplay to console and mobile, and it’s the direction we will pursue in future.”

Kislyi’s promise of multi-platform games from Wargaming is an exciting one, considering World of Warplanes and World of Warships are well on their way to launch. The move won’t be expanding the playable universe for existing fans only; the inclusion of the mobile platform, with its appeal to casual and non-hardcore gamers, might just be what sends Wargaming on its way to world domination.
