About Yi Tay, co-founder and chief scientist at Reka
Yi Tay currently serves as the co-founder and chief scientist at Reka. In this role, they focus on building cutting-edge generative models and propelling advancements within the field of AI research.
Prior to co-founding Reka, Yi Tay held the position of senior research scientist at Google Brain, where they contributed to the development of large language models and artificial intelligence. Before joining the Brain team, Yi Tay served as the Tech Lead for a US-based research group at Google Research, specializing in Transformer scaling and architectures. During this tenure, they also played a role in approximately 20 product launches.
Yi Tay’s time at Google was marked by significant contributions to industry-defining large language models, including PaLM, UL2, Flan-{PaLM/UL2/T5}, LaMDA/Bard, MUM, and more. They further expanded their expertise into large multimodal models such as ViT-22B and PaLI-X. Notably, Yi Tay co-led the modeling efforts for the novel PaLM-2 and PaLM API.
