One Month After Launch, East Ventures Alpha Incubates 6 Start-up Ideas
East Ventures is a Singapore-based venture capital firm that focuses on Internet-based start-ups with portfolios in Indonesia and Singapore. While the Southeast Asia market has much potential, EastVentures felt that it hasn’t come across many quality startups in the region lately that are worth investing in.
Instead of waiting, the folks want to help catalyze the hatching and executing of great start-up ideas. That’s the very purpose of East Ventures Alpha, a 100-day start-up accelerator program that will push the founders to demo and launch their products at the end of the program.
After a mere month, East Ventures told us that the incubator has received over 40 applications. Out of all these, they selected six of them to join its incubator program. Here’s the list we received:
- Promoote: A marketplace for consumers to find and compare local service providers.
- Buzzle: Provides space for merchants to promote their business but without making the customers feel inconvenienced.
- Red Eclipse Games: Builds addictive flash games.
- Monus MinusNol Studio: Helps shoppers in making purchase decisions.
- MacaMoco: Curates online news.
- Whappa Games Studio: Develops mobile games.
The list looks vague, but Joshua Kevin, our writer based in Indonesia, will feed us more details in a follow up post. He was involved in the first mentor session at East Ventures Alpha yesterday.
There have been a lot of start-up incubators/funds/accelerators set up in Indonesia lately. The list includes: Batavia, Ideosource, InvestIdea, and Project Eden. But that’s nothing compared to the 150 start-up incubators in China.
Disclosure: East Ventures is an investor in Penn-Olson.com. But rest assured that we aren’t forced to write content for them.
