Hello readers,
The start of any Football Manager game, transfer-wise, is quite straightforward: Scout and sign up as many wunderkinds – that is, young players with high potential – as your budget allows. However, as the game progresses, you might find yourself needing to make the tough decision of whether to bring in that new center-back when you’ve already trained and developed someone from your initial batch of young’uns into a first-team starter.
Goodbye, Axel Tuanzebe; Jean-Clair Todibo is the new hotness.
The newly formed GoTo Group looks like it’ll have similarly difficult choices to make before long, as Gojek and Tokopedia have overlapping services in the healthcare, insurance, and investment verticals, among others. Consolidations – and possible redundancies and layoffs – could be on the cards.
Today we look at:
- The imminent internal housekeeping that the GoTo Group has on its plate
- GrabPay teaming up with Stripe
- Other newsy highlights such as a Singaporean life sciences company securing a US$200 million series A, and a new venture firm that was launched in Vietnam
PREMIUM SUMMARY
Seeing double?

Gojek and Tokopedia may have joined forces, but there are several internal loose ends for the new GoTo Group entity to sort through – namely, duplicate services.
- Finance: Gojek’s pay-later service Findaya, for instance, has been placed under the new GoTo Financial entity. But Dhanapala, Tokopedia’s peer-to-peer lending service, is still operating under Tokopedia.
- Solutions for SMEs: Initiatives such as GoBiz, GoStore, Mitra Tokopedia, and TokoCabang are still divided between GoTo Financial and Tokopedia at this point in time.
- Baby steps: Nuraini Razak, Tokopedia’s vice president for corporate communications, says that all of Tokopedia’s platforms will still operate independently under the leadership of Tokopedia co-founder William Tanuwijaya for now.
