Google is famous for its amazing doodles, created to celebrate scientific and artistic achievements, festivals, and historic events. The Internet giant has announced the third edition of its Doodle4Google competition, inviting Indian kids to come up with a creative doodle for the upcoming Children’s day on November 14th.
If you are not familiar with Doodle4Google, it’s a yearly contest conducted by Google wherein it invites students across the country, from the age of five to sixteen (i.e. first to tenth grade), to create a theme-based doodle.
Nikhil Rungta, the country marketing head at Google India, explained to Penn-Olson:
Doodle4Google has become a global platform giving young children an opportunity to showcase their talent globally. In India, we have noticed great enthusiasm amongst children toward the Doodle4Google competition. Last year the competition crossed the 100,000 mark from just 4,500 entries in the first year and we expect it to grow much higher this year.
He further added that the winning doodle will be featured as the official logo on Google India’s homepage on November 14 and the logo designer will get a laptop, a year’s Internet connection and a technology grant of Rs 2,00,000 ($4,245) for the school that he/she represents.
How To Participate
- Apply for registration on the Doodle4Google website.
- Review and download all the doodle resources offered by Google.
- Follow the instructions on how to design your doodle.
- Once you are happy with your efforts, submit your doodle and add a title with a supporting statement for it. Last date for submissions is September 15th.
Key Details
This year’s theme is “India’s gift to the world” and the competition will be held in three categories – 1st to 3rd grade, 4th to 6th grade and 7th to 10th grade.
A month later, a celebrity panel of judges will shortlist the entries to the top 45 doodles, with 15 from each category. These entries will then be thrown open for public voting, allowing users to choose their favorite doodle. The top voted entry in each category will finally be declared as the winner.
Additionally, a national winner will be chosen by Google’s original doodler, Dennis Hwang, which will be showcased on Google India’s homepage on Children’s Day – November 14.
