Hello reader,
A couple of months ago, I was watching a stand-up comedy special by Ronny Chieng (who, if you didn’t know, was born in Malaysia and went to school in Singapore). There’s a segment that I love where he talks about how Asian parents always want their kids to be doctors.
Part of me kind of gets it because there’s always this unbearable pressure to do well in school. I’d also offer a slightly different perspective to what he said – beyond just “making money” as the reason to get your kids to be doctors, it’s simply a reflection that they were “the best” when it came to studying and scoring well for exams.
After all, getting into medicine in Singapore requires straight As in every single subject. Voila! Proof that your kid is the most hardworking and studious student that ever … student-ed.
Well, what if you had even greater ambitions and wanted to go one step further? What if instead of becoming a doctor and helping a limited number of people each day, you created a platform that could help thousands or even millions of people at once?
That’s where telehealth platforms like Doctor Anywhere are making a splash – and its business is looking good.
Today we look at:
- Doctor Anywhere aiming to double its revenue this year.
- India’s Open Network for Digital Commerce moving into the mobility sector.
- Other newsy highlights such as Accenture laying off 19,000 employees and JD Industrial’s latest fundraise.

The last few years have caused a massive shift in people’s habits and priorities: both digital channels and healthcare have come under the spotlight, placing healthtech firms in the middle of this new wave of consumer behavior. Let’s take a look at what that means for Doctor Anywhere.
- Keep it 100: According to CEO Lim Wai Mun, Doctor Anywhere is expecting to earn S$100 million (US$73.7 million) in revenue this year, a 2x growth from 2022. He adds that the company has recorded an over 150% compound annual growth rate over the last three years.
- Wholly protected: Many consumers are becoming proactive about wellness and preventive care. This has translated to rising demand for products sold on Doctor Anywhere’s marketplace – it sees around 6,000 to 7,000 transactions each day.
- Appealing overseas: The firm is also making moves in the medical tourism space. It has concierge services in Bangkok, which it plans to roll out in Singapore and Malaysia later this year.
