Digital, Mobile, and Social Media in India [STATS]

india internetEarlier this month we told you about the China social media and mobile industry report prepared by Simon Kemp and the folks at Bartle Bogle Hegarty. Today he’s shared with us a similar report, this time outlining some equally insightful points on digital, mobile, and social media in India.

For us, a few of the notable highlights stood out. Most notably, that India has:

  • 791,000,000 mobile subscribers (compared with 879,000,000 in China)
  • growth of 20,000,000 mobile subscribers every month
  • 100,000,000 internet users
  • 33,158,000 social media users
  • 18,700,000 Orkut users vs 2,740,000 Twitter users

The report also includes some facts about how India’s rural population is gradually coming online, which we reported earlier this month would rise from 12.1 million to 24 million over the span of 2011.
