Dealguru acquires Room Service Deliveries, shows it’s serious about online food delivery

dealguru online food deliveryDealguru, the company behind, one of Singapore’s largest group buying sites, announced today that it has acquired Asian Room Service, which runs Room Service Deliveries. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

With this partnership, Dealivery will be merged into Room Service Deliveries. Dealguru says the combination will make them the biggest food delivery service in Southeast Asia.

Room Service Deliveries has been around for over 9 years, and it operates in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Dealguru, meanwhile, only ventured into the online food delivery space recently when it launched Dealivery in March 2012. Dealivery leverages on the company’s daily deals business and its database of restaurants and customers.

The partnership will expand Dealguru’s reach, give customers more options, and hopefully speed up delivery times. Dealivery was offering island-wide delivery in Singapore from 120 establishments. Now customers can choose from over 400 merchants through a co-branded food delivery site.

This move will provide more competition to FoodPanda, another food delivery site operated by Rocket Internet. FoodPanda serves Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Dealguru was started in 2010 and is backed by Rebate Networks. It was founded by Patrick Linden and Jan Croeni.

Lately, daily deal businesses in Asia have been trying to diversify in the hopes of building a more sustainable business model. Groupon Singapore, for example, opened a physical retail store while Groupon Indonesia began selling discounted products through its online store.
