Filipino Tekken prodigy AK heads to SEA Major 2014 with SMM sponsorship

SMM CEO and founder Dato Dr. Ricky Lim personally acknowledged Laverez and his sponsorship on the first day of SMM Cyberslam, announcing the teenager’s all-expenses-paid trip to SEA Major 2014 in Singapore. According to SMM’s web and gaming manager, Nico Nazario, a sponsorship for AK’s trip to Las Vegas in EVO is also possible
depending on how Laverez performs at the SEA Major.
SMM Philippines event manager Joebert Yu also said that while SMM is open to the possibility of sponsoring other teams and players, one important thing to remember is that players have to “exceed expectations”. Lim also compared Philippine eSports players to Pinoy boxing sensation Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao:
Everyone knows who Pacquiao is. We are looking to do the same for Philippine eSports. Be the Manny Pacquiao of Philippine eSports!
Emerging as third place winner among 20 players in Korea is no small feat, but what do you think? Can Alexandre “AK” Laverez become a “Manny Pacquiao of eSports” for the Philippines?
