AirTrunk, a hyperscale data center specialist in Asia Pacific, has raised A$5 billion (US$3.3 billion) in environmental, social, and governance financing commitments. This comes after the firm recently secured a roughly US$431.7 million sustainability-linked loan (SLL).
According to a press statement, the SLL will power the expansion of AirTrunk’s TOK1 data center campus in Japan and make it the first data center in Asia Pacific to include operational energy and water efficiency as key performance indicators. Deutsche Bank, Crédit Agricole CIB, and MUFG Bank acted as sustainability structuring agents on this SLL.
AirTrunk is also looking to invest in social impact initiatives within Japan and further across the region. The firm will focus on STEM education, equal digital access, biodiversity and conservation, as well as innovation and research and development.
“Our sustainable finance platform complements our recent commitment to net zero emissions by 2030,” AirTrunk CFO Prashant Murthy said.
The firm announced a green loan in September 2022, as well as a A$2.1 billion (US$1.4 billion) corporate SLL in September the year before.
