Having a digital personal assistant on your mobile is good. But if you can’t get a smart one, you might as well opt for a cuter/hotter one. kawaii Assistant (which means cute assistant) is a fun Siri alternative that you might want to check out.
But be warned, this app is not anywhere near Siri’s intelligence. All it does is help you record a voice memo. Other than that, Suki, the lady in the app, does nothing but play rock-paper-scissors, hoping that you will get her some kind of gift.
Users can also interact with Suki by … ahem… poking, blowing, and shaking her. If Suki doesn’t like it her mood meter will drop. The app is quirky but it does have one thing that Siri (or Iris for that matter) doesn’t have. She has a face to go with her voice.
For those of you who have tried Siri, you know that doesn’t feel very ‘human.’ It’s interesting to ponder what Siri might be like if she were more personified as Suki is. While she’s not super-smart, she certainly makes an interesting alternative personal assistant.
Kawaii Assistant is developed by Hong Kong-based Tomiko Studio. It is available for download (iTunes link) in English and Chinese. Have fun!
