If you’re into monster trainer games like Pokemon or Monster Rancher, Philippines’ Loud Panda Interactive just launched a mobile game app that’s likely right up your alley.
In Critter Camp, players collect monsters, train them, and take them into battles. It’s the usual gameplay – complete a series of quests to unlock new regions, gain rewards and coins as you go along, and get more monsters.
But there’s a twist: Critter Camp has four different mini games – The Pit, Tracks, Gym, and Library – which allow you to build your monsters’ stats. Dodge a volley of falling projectiles, run and jump on hurdles, punch out training dummies, or read and spell out words to improve your monsters’ abilities.
Players are also given a time limit in training their monsters and racking up stats so you’d have to think carefully about which monsters to use in battles.
The game’s lead developer, Marvin Apacible, says Monster Rancher was one of his key inspirations. However, his team decided to set Critter Camp apart from other run-of-the-mill games by integrating it with Facebook, enabling users to play with their friends and interact with each other in-game.
Critter Camp is free for iOS on the App Store. The team says the game will also launch on Android soon.
