Retail investors are at a disadvantage in the stock market because big funds are armed with high-end analytical tools and smart data. A new portal in India, Tauro Wealth, which is still in preview mode, wants to even the playing field by arming small investors with the tools that financial institutions use.

Anand Vivek Srivastava, co-founder of Tauro Wealth, says he got the idea when he faced the challenges of investing in stock markets himself and watched friends and family members repeat the most basic mistakes. It’s an idea that appeals to venture capital investors. Today Tauro Wealth announced an undisclosed amount in seed funding from TracxnLabs and angel investors.

“Currently, while large financial institutions have access to high-end technology to make investment decisions, the lack of solutions for retail investors has led to the notion that investing [in the stock market] is too risky,” points out Neha Singh, co-founder of Tracxn.

Active investors in India’s stock markets account for less than 2 percent of the total population. Tauro Wealth co-founder Harsh Vardhan Singh believes the number of retail investors would be much higher if they were empowered with information and tools to make smart investment decisions. That’s what this new portal has set out to do.

The current funding will be used to hire developers and build out the web platform. Then it will seek a pre-series A round to be able to handle online transactions and customer support. The co-founders of Tauro are both engineering grads from the premier Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT) Kanpur.
