For over a decade, the digital asset industry has been defined by rapid cycles of experimentation and volatility. But in 2026, “maturation” is the new keyword, with more organizations and individuals investing in these assets and building infrastructure around them.
Substantive opportunities also continue to emerge. In taking advantage of them, what comes to mind is the old phrase, “Knowledge is power.”
“The industry is maturing,” says Dionne Vaz, marketing director for Consensus by CoinDesk, an annual conference focused on everything digital assets and Web3. “Institutions are engaging more deeply, regulatory frameworks are taking shape, and conversations have moved beyond experimentation toward execution.”

“Our role is to convene founders, CEOs, builders, investors, and regulators to have those conversations in a serious, meaningful way – and to create an environment where partnerships are formed, deals are done, and the next phase of the industry is shaped,” she adds.
The event’s Hong Kong edition has quickly become one of Asia’s leading crypto and AI conferences, strengthening the bridge between the east and west to drive innovation in Asia Pacific and beyond. Projected to host 15,000 industry decision-makers, this year’s run will be held from February 10 to 12.
Future’s so bright
Betting on Hong Kong’s position as a gateway to Asia and a global hub for digital assets, the upcoming event’s program is solidly grounded in the future. It zooms in on themes that are structurally shaping the next phase of digital assets such as Layer 1 ecosystems – particularly Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana – and what their next stage of growth looks like.
The event also covers AI, particularly the growing convergence of the tech blockchain to create new financial systems. The event delves into the macroeconomic environment in Asia, too. Specifically, there’s a focus on “giving global audiences access to leading regional voices and providing a grounded understanding of what’s really happening across the region from the people building it,” according to Vaz.

Speaking of regional voices – speakers include Joseph Lubin, CEO and founder of blockchain software company Consensys, and Hsiao-Wei Wang, co-executive director and board member at the Ethereum Foundation. They will dive into the Ethereum roadmap.
On the macro side of things, experts like Anthony Scaramucci, founder and managing partner of global alternative investment firm SkyBridge; Peter Mintzberg, CEO of Grayscale Investments; and Tom Lee, chief investment officer of Fundstrat, will discuss how exactly the next wave of capital is moving into the space.
The event also features tracks devoted to topics like privacy, stablecoins, and brands and culture. This shows Consensus’ acknowledgement that digital assets are now intersecting directly with global finance, geopolitics, AI, and regulation.
“Privacy, for example, isn’t just about anonymity,” Vaz points out. “It’s about enabling real capital deployment and institutional participation on-chain.”
“As for stablecoins, they are increasingly central to how value moves globally, and AI is changing how infrastructure, trading, and even governance operate,” she further notes.

Proactivity is the name of the game, and Vaz says the event aims to tackle the most advanced innovations with depth and authority instead of simply reporting on the past.
Walking the talk
Besides stage sessions, the conference aims to provide opportunities for people to get to work. This will be done via startup and developer competitions and networking engagements.
It also includes other special activities such as the EasyA Hackathon, which gathers blockchain and AI developers to build and compete for cash prizes, as well as the PitchFest, where companies pitch on stage to attract investor attention from VCs like a16z, Founders Fund, and Y Combinator.

“Consensus has always been about outcomes, not just ideas,” Vaz explains. “Initiatives like these give builders real exposure to capital, mentorship, and strategic partners. For investors, they offer a highly efficient way to see what’s being built at the frontier, and for developers, they provide a platform to test ideas in front of the people who can help scale them.”
These side events also help to create a true experience for attendees, giving them the chance to be involved and establish connections that can have long-lasting impacts.
“We’re very intentional about creating those moments,” Vaz adds.
Gate’s open, come on in
Hosting Consensus in Hong Kong reflects the broader decentralization of the digital asset industry. As the center of activity moves toward jurisdictions that offer both a large talent pool and regulatory clarity, the industry is shedding its experimental label. Business leaders must understand the underlying logic of these new financial systems and how to participate in them.
With a firm belief in digital assets’ important role in the future of global finance and tech, Consensus invites anyone who’s eager to have a better understanding of where the industry is going next.
“By bringing the world to Hong Kong and showcasing Asia to the world, Consensus Hong Kong 2026 plays a critical role in shaping what comes next for the industry,” Vaz says.
Consensus is the longest-running and most influential conference for digital assets and Web3.
Drawing 15,000+ attendees from 100+ countries, its Hong Kong edition gathers the world’s most important founders, executives, and leaders in one place to host consequential discussions, facilitate deals, and accelerate business growth within Asia Pacific and beyond.
