So it’s been a big week for Spike Chunsoft’s Conception II! The controversial, baby-making JRPG finally had its launch date confirmed for April 15th for 3DS and PlayStation Vita, and if that hasn’t been enough we also got a shiny new teaser trailer:
I have already said my piece about the misogyny in Conception II, so I’m going to shut up about that now and have a look at the teaser trailer. The plot seems pretty standard; chosen one destined to save the world, only he has the power to… yeah you’ve heard it before and it certainly doesn’t seem to be breaking any new ground. On the other hand I do really like the main character’s style. He seems much less brooding and more action oriented than Persona’s (the other high school JRPG series) protagonist .
The combat looks great! The action looks fast and the visuals really pop, obviously this could be crafty editing but I am holding out hope for a faster paced, Ni No Kuni style action. What’s even more awesome is that I just realised that the soundtrack is being done by Masato Kouda, the guy who does Devil May Cry! So if nothing else the tunes will be great!
My biggest worry is that we didn’t see much of a world map and I am concerned that Spike Chunsoft might follow Shin Megami Tensei and use menus instead of movement. Yuck!
