Chinese team CIS has had its visa denied for the second time, and pressure is mounting on it as The International 4 (TI4) draws near. This is what Lin “June” Shiyang posted on his weibo today:
Translated, it means:
Depressed… [This is] the second time we failed to get a visa as a team. The person in charge only skimmed our invitation letter. He didn’t even take a real look! The 30th should be the last time. This time, we’ll try to get our visas one by one instead of a group. Dying one by one is better than all 5 of us dying at once!
I hope we won’t become the only team in history to not be able to head to TI because of a rejected visa… tears, tears. So disappointed, we aren’t even in the mood to train.
Team CIS isn’t the only team who encountered visa problems this year. Malaysian team Arrow Gaming also failed to get visas for four of its players initially. Fortunately, Valve and the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports both backed the team up with supporting documents and a recommendation letter, and the team was able to secure visas on its second application.
TI4 is the biggest annual Dota 2 tournament and currently holds the record for having the biggest prize pool for a single eSports event. CIS has painstakingly qualified for a spot to play in the grandest Dota 2 tournament of the year, but is so far unable to even attend. Fans can only hope that the team gets its visas approved for the third time.
