Chinese streaming service iQiyi to hire 200 in Singapore in next few years
Founded in 2010, iQiyi is one of the most popular online video platforms in China, logging 104.8 million subscribers as of the end of September 2020. It also recently launched an office in Singapore, which serves as its headquarters in Southeast Asia.
“We will be expanding (into) a whole range of functions here. For our company, we come with content, so content is going to be a big part of the functions that are here in Singapore,” Kuek said. “In addition to that, we will also have sales, marketing, and business development… making sure we are engaging global audiences.”
Besides Singapore, iQiyi also has operations in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, and Manila. According to the company’s annual report for last year, it had total revenues of US$4.2 billion – a 16% increase year on year – with its total subscribers reaching 106.9 million, up 22% from the year prior.
In April this year, the video-streaming platform was hit with allegations by short seller Muddy Waters, which accused iQiyi of falsifying its revenue and user numbers.
