Chinese startup Lumos offers 100 free humanoid robots

Suzhou-based Lumos Robotics, a humanoid robotics startup, will provide 100 free NIX humanoid robots through its Project Edge program.

Recipients include universities, robotics labs, developers and technologist worldwide.

The company will also provide software access and technical support.

The startup said recipients will pay no upfront fees, licensing charges, or equity. The company said the initiative aims to lower barriers to embodied AI and humanoid robot development.

Lumos was established in September 2024.

Investor disclosures said it had raised about 200 million yuan (US$29.5 million) in angel funding, along with additional early-stage financing.

The giveaway comes as humanoid robots remain expensive. Unitree’s G1 humanoid robot starts at US$13,500, while many industrial humanoid robots in China cost significantly more.

Lumos also unveiled an updated NIX with improved movement capabilities.
