Jack Ma no longer China’s richest man, but he’s still wealthiest tech boss

The Forbes’ China Rich List for 2015 is out now, showing that the combined wealth of its one-percenter members increased by a fifth to US$450 billion from US$376 billion a year ago.
This time last year, Alibaba founder “Jack” Ma Yun topped the China rich list for the first time after the ecommerce titan’s blockbuster IPO. This time around, Ma is down to second place overall – though he remains the richest techie. Wanda Group’s Wang Jianlin this year reclaimed the top spot that he held in 2013 thanks to two spin-off subsidiaries going to IPO.
Let’s focus only on China’s richest tech founders.
1st. Jack Ma – US$21.8 billion
2nd overall in China
Up from US$19.5 billion last year
Jack Ma’s net worth is up despite his moving down to second overall on the list. That has happened despite Alibaba’s stock price now standing about 20 percent lower than when it debuted in September 2014.
2nd. Ma Huateng – US$17.6 billion
3rd overall in China
Up from US$14.7 billion last year
Tencent’s “Pony” Ma Huateng is riding high as WeChat continues to boom and shrewd investments in things like Didi Dache pay off. Despite stock market turmoil in China over the summer, Tencent’s stock is climbing steadily.
3rd. Lei Jun – US$13.2 billion
4th overall in China
Up from US$9.1billion last year
As founder of China’s top valued startup, Lei Jun saw his wealth skyrocket in line with the fast-expanding Xiaomi. He has cash in a lot of piggy banks, including listed tech firms like Cheetah Mobile.
4th. Robin Li – US$10.4 billion
6th overall in China
5th. He Xiangjian – US$9.3 billion
6th. Liu Qiangdong – US$7.8 billion
7th. William Ding – US$7.5 billion
8th. Lu Guanqiu – US$7 billion
9th. Jia Yueting – US$6 billion
10th. Zhou Qunfei – US$5.9 billion
