Simon Kemp, of British ad agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty (Singapore), has shared an interesting statistical overview on social media and the mobile industry in China. It’s an enlightening glimpse at some truly jaw-dropping growth numbers in China’s digital space.
Among a few of the more remarkable numbers listed are the facts that China has
- 879,000,000 mobile phone subscribers
- 295 million bloggers
- 304,000,000 online gamers
For even more mind ‘spoding figures, do check the informative presentation which is embedded below. When I reached out to him via Twitter, Simon explained that much of the numbers reported here were collected by China Internet Watch and CNNIC. He noted that “we compare various data from a few different sources to make sure it all correlates, and then compile it all together in the report.”
Readers might also want to check out our interview with Arndt Focke of The Great Wall Club regarding the rise of China’s mobile industry. It certainly can be difficult keeping up with numbers on China because the country is just changing so fast. The only thing that seems to remain consistent year-by-year are the astonishing growth statistics regarding nearly all things digital.
