Sina Tech is reporting this morning that a leaked internal document from China Mobile has revealed that the company has finally reached an agreement with Apple, and will be selling iPhones as early as September.
The leaked document, which does not indicate what model of iPhone China Mobile will be selling, was an internal message to provincial China Mobile subsidiaries at all levels, instructing them to prepare for the launch of the iPhone on China Mobile. Companies should prepare user contracts for the iPhone, according to the document, and also increase their wireless internet coverage by adding new hotspots that allow users to take advantage of the phone’s WiFi capabilities.
The document stresses the importance of customer service, noting that contracts last only a year and that the level of service customers receive will decide what mobile provider they choose going forward.
Currently, official iPhones work only on China Unicom’s mobile network; however, users with jailbroken iPhones can easily set their phones up for China Mobile or China Telecom service. China Mobile has been in talks with Apple to become an official iPhone carrier since 2007, with no results to date. However, Apple’s COO Tim Cook visited China Mobile headquarters in June of this year, sparking speculation that the two sides may finally have come to an agreement.
