WCG is dead, and now we know what killed it. But what will take its place in China, the country that has hosted several WCG finals including the final two? According to WCG organizer and NeoTV CEO Lin Yuxin (pictured above), something new is coming pretty soon:
NeoTV will put a lot of effort into creating a domestic PC gaming competition. We hosted NSL in 2006, and this year we’ve already secured major support from Blizzard/Netease to continue hosting Starcraft 2 and Warcraft tournaments.
Additionally, we’re currently making preparations for a new large-scale competitive event. We’ll probably announce it in April, and if this event is successful, it will push forward the development of esports nationwide. Personally, I am very excited about it.
So what does that mean? Probably something like the WCG regional finals China used to host every year to choose its representatives for the global finals. But what will it look like and what games will be involved? Who knows! It sounds like we’ll have to wait until April to learn more, but hopefully this thing will be able to fill some of the void WCG has left.
