Update: Sparsha just uploaded their demo video on YouTube. Catch it below
Education and technology always intersect. And Sparsha, an India-based e-learning start-up, wants to be part of this intersection by making learning interactive and efficient through web technologies.
Debabrata Bagchi, the co-founder of Sparsha, told us that his company focuses on letting students “learn by doing.” So much so that the “learning by doing” quote has become the start-up’s ethos.
He explained to us that most education media like books and video lectures are “passive” and students are retaining about 20 to 25 percent of the information they are given. Instead of letting students sit and listen, Sparsha’s e-learning platform wants students to do and learn, converting knowledge to actions. Debabrata remarked:
Sparsha was created to bring in active learning in both traditional and newer learning forms that are still passive using technologies such as simulations.
Its flagship product, iLearnMore, helps students learn more about electronic circuitry by providing students with a virtual collaborative lab environment. It will assign students targeted scenarios with specific goals to accomplish. Students learn the necessary skills to complete the tasks given to them. Check out the demo video here.
When ask about his clients, Debabrata reveals that there are over 5,000 people who use Sparsha’s platform for e-learning. Sparsha’s client include colleges in Bangalore and Pune, and also education providers like Pearson (Edurite). Sparsha’s revenue model is based on a per course or per student basis. Debabrata added:
[We] sell this directly and through partners to schools, engineering colleges, degree/science colleges/polytechnics. We are also reaching the learners though device marketplaces, workshops, and online business models.
We also license our solution to education content providers, online learning providers, and publishers by integrating this in their existing environment.
