Singapore-based Rovo is set to close down its operations at the end of August, the sports app announced in a Facebook post.
The app helps users create workout routines, as well as find partners for sports such as tennis, basketball, and football. In the announcement, Rovo said “a large group of really loyal users” have supported the firm by paying for its services, but it is “insufficient to keep Rovo running.”
Rovo added that it is not “right for the community” to continue paying for the app, which has been left “buggy” and “slow” as the company didn’t have the capacity to upgrade its platform.
Additionally, its employees have “personal obligations coming up” that will prevent them from continuing to support the company financially.
Rovo last raised US$473,000 in a 2018 seed funding round led by East Ventures, with Golden Gate Ventures participating. The startup has also acquired FootySG, an app that allowed users to book football courts in Singapore and Malaysia.
Along with these two countries, Rovo operates in Indonesia, India, and the Philippines.
Rovo was founded in 2017 by Ritesh Angural, Danny Limanseta, Joshua Newman, and James Dam.
