Hello reader,
I spent the last weekend watching a plum grow.
Well, I saw the fruit grow on Twitter as part of a clever marketing tactic by an India-based insurtech startup called Plum. For every 15 likes the company’s post got, the fruit on the Twitter thread grew virtually. As the plum developed, the company would also post factoids insurance.
Soon, post engagement saw the plum grow too big for work desks, roads, cities – and the planet.
The gimmick aside, the thread revealed some facts that made me pause. For example, did you know that it takes 75 minutes to read a standard health insurance policy? And a plan can have some 200,000 policy permutations. No wonder insurtech is taking off the way it is.
And now, much like Plum in India, a generation of Indonesian insurtech firms are trying to change the perception of what many “begrudgingly view as a necessity,” as my colleague Simon says in a story on Indonesian insurtech firms.
One such company is Aman. The Indonesian insurtech company is armed with pre-seed funding and is rising up the ranks.
Today we look at:
- The rise of Indonesian insurtech startup Aman
- SaaS startup Mekari’s latest fundraise
- Chainalysis’ US$170 million fundraise and foodtech unicorn Swiggy’s bet on dining out.
