Casual Connect Asia 2014: bodyguarding gone bite-sized with Kurechii Studios’ Tiny Guardians

I became a Kurechii Studios fan after playing King’s League: Odyssey, and I was incredibly excited to try their latest game Tiny Guardians. I did not leave disappointed.

Founder and director P’ng Yi Wei describes Tiny Guardians as being a tower-defense game with towers that move about. The game revolves around protecting a mage who is making a pilgrimage from one end of the map to the other. You get three points to position troops around the mage, and depending on which direction the enemy waves come from, it’s your job to position your soldiers as best you can to fend off the attackers.

There are currently 12 characters you can summon to protect your mage, ranging from knights to mages and paladins. These characters can be upgraded as you progress through the game, and can evolve twice. There are also different terrains, ranging from the Green Plains to the Dark Circus, which will feature in 15 levels available in the final build of Tiny Guardians. The game will also have two difficulty modes, the tougher of which will feature perma-death.

As we’ve come to expect from Kurechii Studios, the character art was visually attractive, and I admittedly may have spent more time looking at the character portraits than actually trying the game out.

Perhaps my only concern is that Tiny Guardians is a bit slow-paced, but if it’s anything like King’s League: Odyssey then there will probably be a fast forward button to speed up the match pace.

Overall this is definitely a game I’m waiting for with bated breath. Tiny Guardians is scheduled to be out late July in the App Store, and I suspect that, like King’s League: Odyssey, it is headed for the big-time.
