Snap appoints veteran Google executive to lead India

Snap Inc., the company behind Snapchat, has appointed veteran Google executive Pulkit Trivedi as its new managing director for India.

Prior to the role, Trivedi was the director of Google Pay in India for five years, where he was responsible for establishing key partnerships and leading the monetization strategy for the service in the country.

He is expected to join Snap in September and he will report to Ajit Mohan, the firm’s president for Asia Pacific. Trivedi will be responsible for driving revenue, supporting partners, and growing its Indian creator ecosystem.

“India is one of the world’s fastest-growing internet economies, offering Snap an exceptional opportunity to actively contribute to the expansion of our community and businesses,” Trivedi said.

Snap noted that it will employ a “highly localized structure” for the country under the new leadership.

In May, the company said that Snapchat’s monthly active users in India reached 200 million, with more than 120 million of them watching content across its Stories and Spotlight features. It opened its first office in the country in 2019.

This is in contrast to the fate of fellow social media platform TikTok, which was banned in India in 2020.
