Why you should use visual content on social media

Let’s face it, there is only so much you can offer your audience with the typical content marketing antics, especially if you’re after uniqueness. Most average marketers are speaking the same tactics, repackaging the same ideas, and presenting information with the same format everyone is familiar with – text, text, and more text.

Of course, there are some who do it better than others. But if you want to take your online authority to the next level, you’re going to need more than just the everyday marketing stuff.

It’s all about developing and staying consistent with a personality that you want your audience to associate with your brand. And what can be more personalized than content that’s visually unique and compelling?

The popular visual content type

A picture is worth a thousand words, especially if that particular image or collection of images contains condensed information that’s presented in a delightful manner. This is the power of one of the most popular visual content type used in marketing today – the infographic.

An infographic is visual marketing at its finest and purest. A good one incorporates depth, relevant information, a flow of thought, a complete idea, and packages it all together in visual format. Another popular form of visual content is the visual quote, which usually consists of an inspiring or informative quote matched with an emotionally captivating background.

Other types of visual content include slideshow presentations, images, screenshots, and, in some cases, memes.

Why use visual content?

Visual content obviously makes sense with social media networks like Pinterest and Instagram, but it actually works just as well in Facebook, Google+, and Twitter.

Here are some of the best reasons why:

It’s faster

Did you know that the human brain processes images 60,000 faster than text?

Visual content can easily accomplish things that plain text articles struggle with – the fast delivery of information and emotion that engage the viewer. This is why videos are not really the perfect format of visual content. If it’s over a minute long, it might bore the viewer and disrupt the transference of information.

Still, well-made videos succeed in maintaining a consistent flow of thought, thus making the insertion of CTAs (calls-to-action) easier. Videos also appeal to most online media users, although it’s usually just for entertainment purposes.
