Need a company to do mobile app work? Here are 13 Vietnamese studios

The number one question I get asked from readers of my stuff on Tech In Asia, probably because of how little people write about Vietnam in English combined with the perception that it is an outsourcing hub, is “Hey Minh, do you know any mobile app studios in Vietnam?” or, “Hi Minh, can you recommend me some developers that can do mobile work?” So it only makes sense that I spent the last few weeks crunching data from across the ecosystem.

In total, I tracked down over 100 companies that can build mobile apps. And in the next week, we’ll be publishing articles that conveniently summarize companies in four major categories: mobile-only app studios, mobile-and-web studios, outsourcing companies, and digital agencies with mobile app capabilities. This article goes for the former: mobile-only app studios. These are studios that are so focused that they won’t even do web development, they’re totally focused on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, and Nokia. But let’s be honest, it’s mostly iOS and Android.

So, for all you readers out there that desperately want to hire a team in Vietnam, whether it be for cheaper prices or for more customized work, here’s a list of 13 companies that do mobile app work. Keep your eye out for the next three lists.

Note: It’s in alphabetical order. And I’ve also collected the top two apps from every studio, so you can see their work.

2359 Media

2359 is based out of Singapore with a branch office in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. That means that they’ve got some solid Singaporean quality control and designers leading development. 2359 isn’t the only company like this, there’s also Floating Cube and Silicon Straits. The company has 35 people.

Newsloop (iOS) – “From business headlines and tech news to restaurant reviews and health tips, NewsLoop brings you different perspectives with stories sourced from local and international newspapers, magazines and blogs.”

Fox Movie Play (Android) – FOX Movies Play allows the users to watch films, TV series’, concerts, and other general videos.

Alphapod

Here’s a small outfit with offices in both Selangor, Malaysia and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Alphapod has expertise across mobile to mobile webs to back-end architecture, but the team has clear leanings toward mobile apps.

Traffic Forecast (iOS) – “In conjunction with IBM Smarter Cities initiative, the IBM Traffic Forecast app goes a step further by giving a traffic forecast beforehand. This way users can avoid the jam altogether instead of finding a way around it.”

Blitz Craft for Minecraft (Android, iOS) – “Blitz Craft combines the classic Minecraft crafting system with an arcade style blitz experience. Jump in through 100+ levels of various items found in the vast world of Minecraft. Push your crafting knowledge to its limits as each level challenges you in a feat of memory and dexterity.”

Applancer

This is not exactly a mobile app studio, but an outsourcing platform that connects clients with app developers that can get it done. We figured that since there’s nowhere else to list such a platform, it makes sense to put them amongst the other studios.
