Blade & Soul beta hits major milestone in China

Korean MMORPG Blade & Soul has made quite a splash in China since its debut in open beta late last month. Perhaps it’s NCsoft’s beautiful graphics or the game’s impressive Chinese voice acting, but Blade & Soul even made China’s top ten PC games last month and it certainly impressed me when I took it for a spin.

Now, the Korean gaming press is reporting that Blade & Soul has hit a new milestone in China: 2 million players online at the same time. Although it has apparently since dropped back down to an average of just over a million players online at once, breaking the two million mark puts the game on par with China’s most popular games, like League of Legends.

None of these numbers have been officially confirmed by Blade & Soul‘s China operator Tencent, but we’ve contacted the company for comment and will update this story with any specifics it provides. But whether the two million number is accurate or not, it’s clear that the game is doing quite well in China, especially for a beta that’s less than a month old. If you’re into Asian MMORPGs and can handle the language barrier, you’ll definitely want to check this one out.
