It’s time for mobile app developers to celebrate. Blaast — a mobile app development platform using cloud technology — is open for business and targeting local developers in Jakarta, Jogja and Bandung. We sat down with Blaast’s ambassadors, Firman Nugraha and Yohan Totting, to learn more about their service.
1. Can you tell us more about Blaast? What are your roles in the company?
FN : Well, Blaast in short is a mobile cloud computing platform. Our objective is to bring the smartphone experience to the feature phone market and also to ease app developers’ entry into that market. We’re achieving those objectives by using cloud computing technology and featuring an app library where apps made by developers are easily accessible to users. My role in Blaast is as a developer ambassador in Indonesia. Basically what I do is serve as the liason between Blaast and the Indonesian developer community. I do things like like creatie workshops and interact directly with developers, etc.
YT: Blaast is a mobile apps platform that help developers to develop apps on mobile phones. It uses cloud processing to help developers build powerful apps for feature phones, which is impossible using conventional methods. I’m a Blaast ambassador at Bandung; I introduce Blaast to developers and help them learn to develop using this platform. It uses Javascript to build apps so it’s not hard for web developers to pick up how to make apps on the Blaast platform.
2. How many events have you held so far, and how have they gone in terms of attendance, etc.?
FN: So far, we’ve had about 12 events for developers. Attendance varies, but we are satisfied with the attendance given that Blaast has not yet been released for consumers. Events that we hold are mostly workshops and some of the developers have attended more than once. It’s mostly web and mobile developers, and they have been able to successfully develop apps for Blaast. I’m glad to see that developers who attend our events are exited about Blaast even though it hasn’t been released to consumers yet.
YT: In Bandung we’ve already held three events and so far we’ve heard a lot of enthusiasm from attendees. They like to learn about new technology, especially in the mobile sector. This kind of technology is relatively new in mobile app development.
3. Blaast has put on workshops in three cities already; will you guys expand to other cities?
FN: There is a plan for that, but we’re still discussing it internally.
