BizReach is a jobs marketplace that only offers high-level jobs, meaning only job positions that offer $100,000 or more annually. Interestingly, BizReach adopts, as it describes, a “reverse business model of the traditional job site.” Job-seekers pay to get exclusive information on which high level positions are available in the market.
Today, BizReach claims to have over 140,000 job-seekers and over 1,600 recruiters on its platform. CEO Swimmy Minami told me:
We started up the business about 3.5 years ago, and have grown the business to about 90 employees during that time with extremely positive financial results. We are funded by JAFCO, Japan’s largest venture capital [firm,] who invested about US$2.6 million back in Feb 2010.
BizReach.jp is in Japanese. But Minami already has plans to expand outside of Japan. It will be doing so under a totally new brand called RegionUP, focusing on the Asia-Pacific market. Minami said:
RegionUP aims to aggregate information on both the recruitment and job-seeker sides of the executive job market, as currently the information is extremely fragmented.
The Japanese executive job market was in a similar situation in 2009, until BizReach entered the market, and innovated using a similar business model. Leveraging experience gained through the launch and operation of BizReach, RegionUP aims to enrich the executive job market in Singapore and other major cities in the APAC region.
Honestly speaking, I think BizReach has created quite a disruptive business model in the jobs sector where the recruiters are usually the payers. I reckon that it will be successful, though it is not yet a sure thing as expansion and localization are always tough nuts to crack.
