Healthtech startup Biofourmis, Novartis to launch project in Southeast Asia

Healthtech startup Biofourmis announced a collaboration with global healthcare company Novartis to form a commercial project for managing patients with heart failure.

The program is set to start in five countries in Southeast Asia, including Singapore, before expanding globally, according to a statement.

The program aims to improve clinical outcomes by using Biofourmis’ flagship product, BiovitalsHF, which captures data from wearable sensors. Its FDA-cleared Biovitals Analytics Engine then identifies early signs of heart failure exacerbations to enable early intervention.

The program’s initial phase, which starts this month, is expected to roll out across Southeast Asia for recently discharged heart failure patients.

The patients will be part of a three-month program at the point of discharge. They will be given a wearable biosensor called Everion, along with a patient-facing companion app called BiovitalsHF so they can remotely monitor and report their symptoms, communicate with their care teams, and manage their medication.

According to the statement, heart failure is the top global cause of hospitalizations for patients older than 65. Roughly 85% of hospitalized patients also suffer from an acute heart failure event at least once, with 43% of patients admitted at least four times.

“The ultimate goal of this alliance is to work with Novartis to drive better patient-centric outcomes and arm providers across the globe with the right actionable information early enough to better manage their patients with heart failure,” said Biofourmis founder and CEO Kuldeep Singh Rajput.

Founded in 2015 in Singapore, Biofourmis develops and delivers clinically validated software-based therapeutics for better management of patients with complex chronic conditions. In May, it closed a US$35 million series B funding round and moved its headquarters from Singapore to Boston.
